It had all the intelligence a caller could have asked for – godlike recorded and cultural CV, satisfactory maps, beneficial descriptions of all the places of interest on the eyot, massive listings of hotels, restaurants, tours and activities and events on the archipelago, and encyclopaedic sections on beaches and hiking. The directions to all the places we visited were on the mark, and all the dirt we inured to was common. You couldn’t in actuality ask for any more in a guidebook. In in point of fact, of all the guidebooks out there, if I had to pick only one model to Maui to take along, this would be it.
